Maintaining a work-life balance as a mom is about separating your personal and professional lives without allowing one to encroach upon the other. Both are important, neither should be neglected.
It is beneficial for our mental and physical well-being, to our family, company or business. We can do better in all of these areas when we too are well taken care of. But how can it be possible when there's so much in our plate?
THE REAL STRUGGLE OF WORKING MOMS. Nowadays, moms are struggling to find a Work-Life balance more than ever. This is not something new.
Now that we're in a pandemic, household chores have doubled. We sanitize almost everything that's entering our home. We probably wash pile of clothes more than we used to. We're cleaning the entire day since we have active kids playing around the house. We also have to keep our kids productive while at home or to supervise them during their online class. And the list goes on.
WORKING MOM HACKS
#1 Know your ideal BALANCE. We all have different values as well as priorities. By identifying each of them, it'll be a good starting point as to where you will spend most of your time.
#2 ORGANIZE your..
-Time: Moms are known for multi-tasking. This could also lead to forgetting some tasks. But if we will list down the things that you should be doing, you can save yourself from the stress and wasting of time. You'll be able to track your tasks. You can organize your tasks using the Eisenhower Decision Matrix: Important and Urgent | Important but not Urgent | Not Important, but Urgent | Not Important, Not Urgent.
-Finances: it creates additional wealth because it helps you make the most out of the hard-earned assets you create through good long-term planning. It's more than just listing down your income and expenses, but the key to a well organized finances is setting a budget for all the expenses including needs and wants. It's like telling your money where to go, instead of you wondering where it went when it's all gone.
By planning ahead your finances, you'll be able to see what could be adjusted in order to allocate your money to things that matter. For example: investment, business expansion, or funding your dream (learning new things) and don't forget to reward yourself for being diligent at saving. Look for the method that will work for you. In my case, envelop method works well. it's straightforward method. As I can easily see the exact amount that's still available at hand.
-Meal plan: it is a life saver for busy moms. Once you made a weekly meal plan, you already know what you need to buy (saves money), what to cook (saves time), or you can also do a batch of cooked meals then stock it in freezer (saves energy).
#3 SELF CARE. Learn to say NO to mom-guilt by thinking that we're not enough, we're not doing enough, nor doing things right. Let's be reminded the we are wonderfully and fearfully made. We are not better than anyone else, but we're good in our own way. We are the best fit for our spouse, children, job/ business.
Learn to accept the things that we cannot control, and start focusing our energy on the things that we can change.
#4 ENJOY THE JOURNEY. Enjoy the journey not just the destination. It will be a win win solution because you'll be much happier to bring all the memories along the way when you reached your goal. We'll never know what tomorrow may bring, all we have is TODAY. So might as well make the most out of your situation.
#5 LEARN TO DELEGATE TASKS. We all have 24 hours a day and one body to function. Therefore we can't do everything all at the same time. Taking care of the kids is a lot of work already, that's why we need a helping hand to help us with other tasks so we can focus on the things we're awesome at.
For example, if you are a business owner and you can hire a Social Media Manager to help you with digital marketing so you can focus on developing new products or improving your services.
That being said, no matter how we want to feed our family with the healthiest meal, to keep our house spotless clean, to be the top employee, or to keep our business on top.
We are human too. We get tired of the daily tasks and mental loads we are carrying 24/7. We might be placing so much pressure in ourselves that we forgot that we might be capable but our body and time is only limited.
Finding the work-life balance is a journey that all of us will benefit from.
